Today I was just playing on the new Mercedes E Klasse configurator...and I saw this.
The E isn't like any wagon in its class, because it's the only wagon in its class. We Americans lack the beautiful BMW F11 5er, and the stunning Audi A6 Avant, rendering this thing the only "luxury" German wagon in the market. It's quite nice for a car primarily targeted at people who won't drive spiritedly at all, and it's made me interested in a non-AMG Merc passenger car. But there is also an AMG...

If you're going to split hairs to the country of origin, sure.
But Cadillac hasn't built its last CTS-V Wagon yet. You might even find one on the lot.
Or order one with a manual transmission.

Yeah, I specified German.
Either way, I don't quite like the CTS Wagon's styling, especially the taillights. Too vertical; too...idk, angled?

I agree, this thing is sexier then that s-class coupe concept.

"acute" is the word I would use. I'm not a huge fan, but I'd rather drive it because it stands out. The E class blends in way too much, to the point where I could never justify spending the premium when it looks so bland.
So many luxury brands try to sell you on the "people will be impressed by your car" bit. Nothing Mercedes builds (SLS excepted) will do that. They just look too homogenous.

I'd buy one if I could get a three pedal version
no questions asked.

I don't really want something that stands out.
This is a E Class. It's not entry-level luxury, it's not executive luxury. It's good enough to lug already all the luggage a person will ever need, while being comfortable.
And I'm pretty sure a E Class wagon will stand out, anyways. It's a wagon, it's a new refresh, and I've only seen two sedans.

I'm not sure what or where my obsession with wagons came from, but at least I know now that I'm not the only one lol.

Different tastes for everyone, but I was trying to explain why the Cadillac's styling works, and that it definitely has an appeal to certain people.
I see a newer E class about once a week (I live in the inner city), and I can sufficiently say, unless they are owned by someone you know, or you are a car person, any E class made in the last 5-6 years looks identical. The "subtle" design changes we see are lost in the sea of Mercedes. Everyone else sees big black blob with a super shiny awesome Mercedes badge . So they assume it's the biggest, nicest Mercedes, whether it's a brand new E class, or a 4-year-old one that was just recently washed.

I understand. I love the CTS-V wagon, but it's just not really something that's for me.

Someone please send this to Audi. It's the only way they'll bring the Avants here. We just have to get them in a dick swinging match with Mercedes.

yes. Someone please do.
I'm hoping this, like the CLS, sparks some niche market. A7, 6GC, etc. Hopefully Audi won't resist the temptation to rival this, because they already have a perfectly fine car that can rival this. A6 3.0 TDI avant, anyone? The practicality of a near-SUV, able to tow stuff, yet being luxurious and easier to drive than a truck.
